Carl Swanson's Fox Farm Cabin on Strawberry Island, Glacier Bay. |
This 1965 photo shows Carl Swanson's humble little "shack" in which he lived and conducted his business. Click on title for more...
|
Carl Swanson was a fox farmer who relocated his operations from Beardslee Island to Strawberry Island in 1929. He was a friend of Joe and Muz Ibach, and shared their love of wilderness living. Remote "neighbors" they were both involved in the thriving business of the day (fox farming). He remained until he was "driven out" about 1938. (Dave Bohn photo, in Glacier Bay; the Land and the Silence, 135.)
