Ruth Matson: Third Official 1 Room School Teacher in Gustavus, Alaska.

Ruth (Wenz) & Fred Matson (newly married in 1927) arrived Gustavus, Alaska fall 1930 with contract to become "teacher" to 5 (soon 6) Gustavus school children. In photo, Ruth on schoolhouse steps where they lived in a tiny apartment inside for 2 yrs. before leaving for Port Alexander.
