Joe Ibach's Former Boat "Rolf" To Be Used For S.E. Alaska Mail Run.

New "Rolf" owner William Gray, Yakutat merchant, announcing intention to obtain 300 mi. mail run contract between Juneau & Yakutat to assure reliable mail service. Joe Ibach's former boat "Rolf" was reported to be an "excellent sea boat" at 57' long and a payload of 21 tons.

YAKUTAT TO HAVE WINTER SERVICE

William Gray Operating Big Launch Rolf Between Outlying Post and Juneau

William Gray, merchant of Yakutat, arrived in town last night from his home in the gas boat Rolf, which he has lately purchased.  He brought mail which is the first to be sent out from Yakutat for six weeks.

Mr. Gray is now negotiating for a regular government contract to carry mail between Yakutat and Juneau once a month or oftener, with good prospects of getting it.  But in the event that no arrangements are made with the government, he will make monthly trips at his own expense, carrying both mail and passengers.  Two years ago this coming winter Yakutat was five months without either receiving or dispatching mail.  The distance from Yakutat to Juneau is in the neighborhood of 300 miles.  The trip this time was made in 32 hours.  The Rolf is 57 feet long and carries 21 tons.  She is an excellent sea boat.
